\nAlongside the Karaganda argali and the Siberian ibex, the maral (cervus elaphus songaricus) is one of Kazakhstan's symbols. A mighty deer, similar to the American wapiti. With live weights of up to 400 kg and a withers of 155 cm, it is a true giant of the mountains. The weight of its antlers is beyond belief. 14 kg, 15 kg, even up to 20 kg have been documented and reflect the strength of this species. We are particularly proud
\nthat in the 2011 season the second strongest Maral in the world rankings with 426 SCI was killed by one of our guests.
\nThe rut falls in the month of September and represents for the Kazakh
\nIt is a natural spectacle without equal when the whistling of the marals echoes from the slopes of the Alatau. The call hunt for the maral is one of the most fascinating types of hunting that a deer hunter can still enjoy today.
\nThe Siberian ibex, a true king of the mountains, is found in the same hunting area. It is unbelievable what climbing skills ibex are capable of. You have to experience and see a herd on the steep wall yourself; it is hard to describe. Ibexes can weigh up to 130 kg, while females weigh around 30 percent less. Both sexes have horns, although the females only have short, barely curved horns. The horns of the Siberian ibex are impressive. The ibex is fully grown at 7 to 8 years of age and can be hunted from this age.
\nA hose length of 110 cm or more is considered a good ibex, and when the length approaches 125 cm, you can safely speak of a capital ibex.
\nBut Kazakhstan is not the number 1 Capricorn country for nothing.
\nOur guests' dream trophies were: 130 cm, 132 cm, 135 cm, 136 cm, 139 cm and the top trophy measured 143 cm. However, the trophies only look impressive when they have a wide base circumference and – what's more – with many, pronounced

\nIt can be quite cold in both winter and summer, so hunters should take warm clothes with them. In autumn it can rain more often, so rainwear should also be included in your luggage.
\nOn the first day of hunting, you have to get up early. Your guides are ready. Horses are saddled and packed. You leave the camp and head out into
\nthe actual hunting area. The tents are then set up near the maral habitats. From now on you can rely on the experience and skills of your Kazakh guide. You will not be disappointed because, despite good training, the local professional hunters are paid on a success basis. In normal weather conditions, you will see marals almost every day.
\nThese are high mountain hunts that could place high demands on you. Your fitness is a prerequisite for hunting success, because the rutting grounds of the strong
\nMarals are often found in impassable terrain and approaching them requires a few drops of sweat. You will spend most of the hunt on horseback. If you
\nIf you are not a rider, this should not put you off, because after a short period of getting used to it, you will usually be sitting firmly in the saddle. It is particularly important to practice shooting at a longer distance before you start your journey.
\nMarals are, as already described, huge stags, but they are very hardy when shot, especially during the rutting season. The maral trophy is too valuable, the hunt too strenuous and it is too annoying if after the hunt only a wounded maral is recorded in the hunting log.
