Reindeer hunting in Iceland
\nReindeer hunting in Iceland is a uniquely exclusive experience. Every year, 20-30 foreign hunters enjoy the privilege of hunting these wild and majestic animals in our rugged country, with its hot springs, volcanoes, and glaciers. The Icelandic reindeer was originally brought to Iceland from Norway in 1780. Since then, they have evolved through natural selection to survive the Icelandic winters, which are significantly harsher than those in Norway. Icelandic reindeer live exclusively in the wild and have never been domesticated. There are only 800-1200 tags (50% for females) per year, and these are primarily issued to local hunters. Eastern Iceland is the home of the Icelandic reindeer. It is important to note that applications for tags must be submitted by February 10th of each year.
\nHunting season
\nA special early deer season is from July 15th to 31st. There are 24 hours of daylight in July. The general reindeer season is from August 1st to September 15th. The best hunting period is from August 1st to September 10th.
