Die Rotwildjagd wird in Rumänien in drei großen Landesteilen ausgeübt: Im Hoch- und Mittelgebirge der Karpaten, im Hügelland (Ausläufer der Karpaten) und im Flachland. In den endlosen Urwäldern der Hochkarpaten gibt es vielerorts noch Revierteile, die im Laufe eines Jahres vielleicht von einem Berufsjäger oder Schafhirten betreten werden. Der Rotwildbestand ist nicht allzu groß, da das hohe Raubwildvorkommen im gesamten Karpatenbogen für eine spürbare natürliche Bestandsreduktion verantwortlich ist. Dafür sind jedoch die Trophäen reifer Hirsche von sehr guter Qualität: Erwartet werden können Geweihgewichte von sieben bis zwölf Kilogramm, mit etwas Glück sogar darüber.

In the endless virgin forests of the High Carpathians, there are still many parts of the country, which in the course of a year may be entered by a professional hunter or shepherd. The deer population is not too great, as the high amount of deforestation in the entire Carpathian arch is responsible for a noticeable natural reduction in the number of species. However, the trophies of ripe deer are of very good quality. We can expect antler weights of seven to twelve kilograms, with some luck even more.
