Kurgan ist ein Gebiet im Südwesten Russlands im westsibirischen Tiefland. Die Hauptstadt ist Namensgleich wie das Gebiet – Kurgan. Sie liegt im Zentrum des Landes. Südlich Kurgans grenzt Kasachstan, westlich das Gebiet Tschejabinsk, nördlich die Region Swerdlowsk und östlich liegt Tjumen. Von Norden nach Süden ergibt sich eine Länge von über 290 km und von Westen nach Osten sind es über 430 km.
Das Land kann sehr gut für die Landwirtschaft genutzt werden, da es sehr flach ist. Etwa ein Fünftel des Landes ist bewaldet und über 3000 Seen und 400 Flüsse sind hier zu finden. Die größten sind Tobol und Isset.
Kurgan ist passionierten Rehbock-Jägern ein Begriff. Nirgends sonst hat man bessere Chancen starke Rehböcke zu bejagen. Hier wiegen die Böcke ca 50 kg und die Tröphäen können auch ein Gewicht von 1 kg erreichen.
Häufig vorkommende Wildarten in diesem Gebiet sind außerdem das sibrische Rehwild, Elche, Wildschweine, Wölfe, Auer- und Birkwild, Enten, Gänse und Rebhühner. Insgesamt findet man hier 64 verschiedene Säugetierarten, mehr als 250 Vogelarten, 6 Reptilien- und 8 Amphibienarten und 27 Fischarten. Die Wälder bestehen meist aus Pappeln, Birken, Kiefern, Lerchen und Tannen, was typisch für die nordische Region ist.

Kurgan is an area in the southwest of Russia in the West Siberian lowlands. The capital is the same as the area - Kurgan. It is located in the center of the country. South of Kurgans borders Kazakhstan, the Chelyabinsk region to the west, Sverdlovsk region to the north, and Tyumen lies to the east. Kurgan is a passionate roebuck hunter. Nowhere else does one have better chances of hunting strong deer. Here they weigh about 50 kg and the small horns can also reach a weight of 1 kg.
Also important and frequently occurring wilds in this area are the siberian deer, moose, wild boars, wolves, aurochs and red deer, ducks, geese and partridges.
